SoCal's Funnest Running Community

Hello All,

I am new to SCR site and really like it so far. I am training for my first marathon in NYC in November. I am new (ish) to running. I took a ChiRunning lesson from Kathy Greist last year and loved it.

Took some time off from running late last year due to business (argh!) but I am now back to running with a gusto. I am a formerly morbidly obese woman who could not walk to the mailbox, so running is something I never thought I would do! Whoo HOO!

I just bought the new NewBalance 800 Chi shoe and going to try them out today. Like the fit so far...

Just wanted to pop in and introduce myself!

Welcome... Please keep us posted on the new NB 800 shoe. Was it kind of pricey?
Happy that you are part of SoCalRunning.. ;->

Welome!
I am new to the site too and I am new to running.
I did my first 5k this year...have done several since and will be doing the NIKE Human Race 10k on the 31st...whew, it's gonna be a night run...not sure how the body will do with it. We'll soon see. Will you be running it?

Howdy. Would love to know how you were successful in losing weight. Something I struggle with. And I too am glad I started chi-running. I couldn't run at all, then started running with the Beach Runners and, SCHOCK ME, I can run, although very very slowly. I did lose 29 lbs with Weight Watchers, and now run a bit faster, but I put 10 lbs back on. Oh well. It will be a lifelong battle for me, I'm sure. Barb

Wow, just checked out your pics and that is so amazing!!! What an inspiration.
Glad you were able to go to coach Steve's running workshop. I was going to mention that he does runs and yoga on Thurs in Pasadena, and you might want to join in, so hopefully he gave you all the details.

Maybe some day you could come run w/us in Long Beach. We run every Sat morning, training fior LB marathon and 1/2. Would enjoy chat with you about running and losing weight. Planning any 5 or 10Ks? Barb

Welcome! Maybe you saw my video review last week on SoCalRunning.com I laughed because it is very similar to mine. Now that I have about 75 miles on the 800's I like them a lot, they just look and feel slow.

Since you're in Pasadena, come to my free Thursday night Trail run and Yoga for Runners workout. It starts at 6:30 PM for the run and then 7:15 for the yoga. I just bring a towel or yoga mat. It is a great group of fun people of all abilities.

We're glad you joined and your pictures are amazing. Also I am speaking to the Pacers this Saturday on race day nutrition and hydration, in case you are interested.

I'm a former beach runner mentor that has relocated to NYC for school. Congratulations on your decision to run a marathon. Keep strong and maybe I'll see you in November.

Welcome!
Look forward to seeing you run with the Beachrunners in Long Beach some time! I'm, Larry, one of the mentors as well as yoga instructor. If you can make it, as Barb mentioned, we run tuesday's at 5:45 and then head on over for yoga at 6:45, but you don't have to do both...whatever works for you!
