Congradulations and Welcome! I can relate....losing weight and running saved my life too. I joined SoCal Running/ChiRunners 2 years ago after losing 40lbs...and in that time I've just finished my 17th (no typo) full marathon....ChiRunning makes it possible. I look forward to running with you.
Amazing story!! I'm so happy that you found a healthy life style to replace your past miseries. Running is such a wonderful way to battle the obstacles life throws our way. Please keep up the good work. You look great but it sounds like you feel even greater! You deserve it.
Hi and welcome to SoCalRunning! Your story is inspiring, thanks so much for sharing. Please come and join us one of these days next to the Rose Bowl Aquatics Center for trail running and Yoga. You'll enjoy it a lot!
Wow! hubba hubba...you're looking grrrrreeeaaattt! I'll divorce "the love of my life" and leave my 14.5 kids for you, if you'd like. Let's run away together and find the the promise land, we'll dine on the finest of milk and honey. Congratulations! You should be proud as you make us so.
You did great today!
The poses were on the more advanced side. There are many yoga classes in town that are accessible to many levels, especially the first time participant.
The class must have been a challenge for the instructor...such a confined space, such a mix if participants.
Play around with different yoga classes till you find one that fits and feels good to your body.
When one incorporates a gentle and considerate practice to their running training, (be it yoga, stretch classes, pilates, aquatic mobility) it is amazing how excited our body becomes to do more things.
I am hoping to hit one of the training runs this week...I'll keep you posted.
I would also love to invite you to try a class at my studio (as my guest), the morning stretch classes are wonderful (but very early-6am) and since they are small, till Sept, it will be great.
Hope to see you soon!

About Me:
I am 45 years old. I am an artist, a runner and entrepreneur.
I began running last year after losing 147 pounds. (No, that is not a a typo..) I had weight loss surgery in November 2005 after my health began to show signs of deterioration due to my weight. I could barely walk to my front door to get to my mailbox! I was slowly dying.
Once the weight was off, I felt free to do so many things I could not have imagined. Running was one of those things. I worked out with a trainer at a private gym and got stronger. So on a whim I entered a 5K..having never run before. I thought I was fit and strong..no problem, right? WRONG. My first 5K kicked my butt! And the running bug got me.
Soon, after I found the ChiRunning book and thought it made so much sense. My knees were a problem after spending my adulthood obese, so I was worried that running would really hurt them.
After reading the book, I signed up with a private class with Kathy Greist. She was a fantastic teacher! So calm and patient and I learned so much in a short amount of time. Being a painter, I likened Kathy as an artist whose medium is running!
