My name is Matt. Transplanted to Long Beach from Minnesota (via Redondo Beach) in Sep. '07 with my new bride. Long-term interest in fitness/nutrition/wellness, but that interest has really intensified over the past three years (so much that I'm tempted to say it's become a "passion" even...). I've never been much of a runner, & considered it unhealthy at one point, but research into Chirunning/Pose method/barefoot running has changed my previous notions.
Ran with Beach Runners for summer '08 season, and finished my first race ever by completing the Long Beach half marathon after coming off a knee injury. I also really began to enjoy the RPV trail runs, and recently picked that back up again. Currently training very hard (swimming, running, strength) in preparation for pararescue tryouts at Moffett Field in Mountain View, CA.
Favorite Races:
MS Society's 75 mile inline skating event between Hinckley & Duluth, MN
Personal Records (PR's):
Long Beach 1/2 Marathon - 1h:53m:24s (only running race so far!)
Favorite Place to Train:
New Favorite: trails in RPV
Running Goals:
comfortably run 8 mi. under a 7 min pace
Post run indulgance:
After Tues. RPV trail runs & yoga, I'm always craving a carne asada burrito, and sometimes indulge... there are some great late night stands on anaheim...
Other sports I like to do:
Swimming, "functional" exercise, Crossfit (member of Crossfit 360 in Long Beach).
What I'm reading:
Les Miserables
Music picks:
current workout mix includes: Moby, The Killers, Postal Service, Depeche Mode ("Playing the Angel" album), Imogen Heap. I'm also learning to appreciate the sounds around me instead of music while working out... i like to switch it up...
I missed Beach Runners this morning. Yesterday's workout included a lot of deadlifts, and I think I may have overdone it a bit... my legs and back were really feeling it when I rolled out of bed at 6am. No need to induce injury through a nice enjoyable 1:30 jog on a Saturday morning. So I'm going to lay low until work tonight, and I promise I'll do my run tomorrow! I'm bummed I had to ditch, though. I'll be out of town for my 1 year anniversary the next two Saturdays, so I won't be at an LSD Sat… Continue
As much as I was bummed to miss yet another Saturday run last week, I was able to enjoy some glorious nature in Michigan while out there for a friend's wedding. Thursday morning (7/3) I woke up nice and early to run the Dunes Trail at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore , which begins with the lovely Dune Climb. The weather was quite cool at 7:30am, and the san… Continue
Hey, Matt! How was your weekend? My friends are organizing a Mt. Baldy hike on the 27th. I can email you the details thru this Ning site... but... you'll have to add me as friend :)
I emailed the other Beach Runners too if they want some cross-training for that weekend.
Hi Matt. Nice of you to join us earlier for Steve's trail run and yoga. Was that you? Or another Matt? Hahaha. Anyway, I'll keep you posted on trail runs and hikes we have. Have a great run on Saturday!
